CT Man Killed After Vehicle Flips Over Railroad Tracks, Police Say

A Connecticut man was killed after losing control of his vehicle and being ejected after hitting railroad tracks along Route 8, said Connecticut State Police.

New Haven County resident Jonathan Vazquez, age 24, of Derby, was killed around 1 p.m., on Monday, Jan. 4, while traveling northbound on Route 8 near Beacon Falls, said state police.

According to state police, For an unknown reason, Vazquez lost control of his Honda Accord and veered off the roadway to the right. 

The vehicle then crossed into the grass shoulder where it struck and went over the metal beam guardrail, traveled down the embankment, crossed through both travel lanes of Cold Spring Road, and continued down a second embankment, state police said.

 Upon reaching the bottom of the embankment, the vehicle then flipped over the railroad tracks and landed on its roof. 

Vazquez was ejected from the vehicle. He was transported to Waterbury Hospital, by Beacon Falls EMS, where he died from his injuries. 

Rail transportation was halted until 6 p.m., to allow inspection of the tracks for damage.

No enforcement action has been taken at this time. The incident is under further investigation.
